Lawrence public schools will be closed Tuesday because of the deep freeze gripping the region.
"We've still got a lot of icy areas out there. It's looking like it will be colder than it was today," Julie Boyle, the district's director of communications, said Monday evening in announcing the second consecutive day of school closings in Lawrence.
Besides Lawrence, just about every school district in the area decided to take a snow day Tuesday, because of the ice and cold.
The National Weather Service in Topeka is reporting that today's highs will be 15 to 20, with light northwest winds this morning. Snow will be developing after midnight, with one to two inches of accumulation before sunrise.
There is also an 80 percent chance of snow on Wednesday morning, for total accumulations of up to four inches.
