Leavenworth Inmates at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth remained confined to their cells Thursday after a fight that left two prisoners and one staff member with minor injuries.
The fight broke out about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, and prison officials say several inmates used weapons.
Authorities say the lockdown will continue while they search for weapons and interview inmates.
Prison spokesman Claude Chester said the lockdown meant that essential services such as meals and medical care are provided but only under tight security.
One staff member fell and injured his arm while trying to separate inmates and was taken to a hospital.
Two inmates suffered minor injuries and were treated by prison staff.
Chester said guards responded to the fight immediately and it was under control in 20 to 25 minutes.
The cause of the fight remains under investigation, he said.
