Nellie Westgate

— Services for Nellie Elizabeth Westgate, 98, Manhattan, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Flory Cemetery, near Pleasant Grove.

Mrs. Westgate died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community, Manhattan.

She was born Sept. 15, 1902, in Manhattan, the daughter of Frank S. and Ivy May (Chandler) Allen.

Mrs. Westgate had worked as a clerk in Pleasant Grove and at Kramer Food Service Center at Kansas State University, Manhattan.

She was a member of Blue Valley Memorial United Church, X Farm Wives Club, American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, United Methodist Women and was a longtime Sunday school teacher.

She married Donald P. Westgate on Nov. 14, 1923, in Manhattan. He died Dec. 5, 1968.

Survivors include three daughters, Hazel M. Gleason, Mission, Tex., Winifred P. Trotter, Winterville, N.C., and, Jessie M. Ruddell, Alamosa, Colo.; three sons, Myron E. Westgate and Daniel J. Westgate, both of St. George, and Wilfred P. Westgate, Mission, Tex.; a sister, Bessie Inman, Manhattan; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchidlren.

A son, Ellsworth Westgate, and a daughter, Ivalee Westgate, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan 66502.
