Kansas City, Mo New Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel, hoping to avoid the fate of his last five predecessors, hit Kansas City on Friday in a quickie tour of the Show-Me State.
About 800 members of the Kansas City Tiger Club attended a two-hour get-together at the Stadium Club in Kauffman Stadium.
Pinkel assured fans he would work hard "to build the kind of program our great university deserves."
Pinkel, who in 10 years at Toledo was 73-37-3, met with fans in Columbia before heading to Kansas City.
The next stop is St. Louis on Monday.
"They have me going all over the place. They just kind of put an itinerary on my desk and say go, and I go," he said.
Pressing the flesh, as politicians say, is Pinkel's first step in building a solid fan base and keeping players in the state.
