Renaissance Festival begins this weekend

— Henry VIII and his royal crown is returning this year to the Renaissance Festival, which kicks off Saturday at the festival grounds north of Bonner Springs.

The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends, Saturday through Oct. 15. The front gate ceremony begins at 9:45 a.m.

Each weekend has a theme: Irish Blarney, Saturday-Monday; Vintage Italy, Sept. 9-10; Eastern Escapades, Sept. 16-17; Mighty Scottish Games, Sept. 23-24; Carnivale de France, Sept. 30-Oct. 1; Spanish Armada, Oct. 7-9; and Oktoberfest, Oct. 14-15.

Ticket prices range from $6.95 for children 5 and older to $13.95 for adults. Children under 5 are admitted free.
