Events in Logan celebrate Labor Day

Logan In conjunction with the 24th Annual Labor Day Celebration, a Radio Controlled Fly-in will be at 8 a.m. Sunday at the Logan Golf Course.

Other events include the car show, sand volleyball tournament, children's tractor pull, Joe Cheeseman's "Tubs of Fun," a fireworks show, and music by Tim Anthony and the Animals and Jimmy Dee and the Fabulous Destinations.

Train rides slated to Lawrence, DeSoto

Topeka The Topeka Railroad Days 2000 Excursion Train Special features eight different trips, with morning, afternoon and evening rides.

The trains will travel on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe mainline. Passengers will travel in reconditioned, air-conditioned vintage 1950 passenger cars. All trains depart from the Amtrak Station at Fifth and Holliday. Passengers should arrive 30 minutes early.

Trips range from $25 to $45, depending on seating. Available trips are:

Saturday: 8:45 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Lawrence; 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Osage City; and 5:50 p.m.-10:10 p.m., DeSoto.

Sunday: 8:45 a.m.-12:20 p.m., Osage City; 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Lawrence; and 5:50 p.m.-10:10 p.m., DeSoto.

Monday: 8:45 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Lawrence; and 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., DeSoto.
