Acoustic instrument players earn awards at championships

Here are the results of this weekend's Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships in Lawrence:

  • Flat pick guitar: first place, Jason Nelson, Chapman; second place, Ken Plummer, Augusta.
  • Miscellaneous acoustic instruments: first place, Pamela Bruner, Lawrence, Celtic harp; second place, Larry Lintner, Edgerton, Dobro guitar; third place, Ken Plummer, Augusta, Dobro guitar.
  • Mandolin: first place, Monte Parker, Prairie Village; second place, Jason Nelson, Chapman.
  • Banjo: first place, Jim Curley, Shawnee; second place, Ken Plummer, Augusta.
  • Mountain dulcimer: Duane Porterfield, Kansas City, Kan.
  • Ensemble folk singing: first place, Euphoria String Band, Lawrence; second place, Mayhew Sisters, Lawrence.
  • Fiddle: first place, Todd Etter, Lawrence; second place, Mike Horan, Oskaloosa.
  • Youth winner: James Ommodt, St. Marys.
  • Other youth entrants: Ashley Herb, Kansas City, Mo.; Stephen Mason V, Lawrence; Lindsay Craig, Emporia; Megan Poppe, Blue Rapids; Amber and Erin Rogers, Concordia.
