Kansas City, Mo The Kansas City Star has acquired three more newspapers the Lee's Summit Journal, the Belton Star-Herald and the Cass County Democrat-Missourian.
The newspapers were purchased Monday from members of the Clark Murray family, owners of Inland Industries Inc. of Lenexa, Kan. Terms were not disclosed.
The newspapers will be owned by Knight-Ridder, parent of The Star, but will be operated under auspices of The Star.
The Star said it would merge into the Journal the operations of another Lee's Summit newspaper, The Lee's Summit Tribune, which it acquired in March by purchasing Keltatim Publishing Co. That transaction also included a daily newspaper in suburban Johnson County, Kan., The Olathe Daily News.
The Journal publishes three times a week and has a paid circulation of about 7,100. The Star-Herald and Democrat-Missourian, both located in neighboring Cass County, publish once a week and have combined paid circulations of about 10,900.
