I was wondering why the county is spending $1.9 million on Lone Star Lake dam. Doesn't the federal government have responsibility for it since they had a role in designing it? It worked fine for 60 years, and I can't see putting $2 million into it.
Keith Browning, director of public works, said the dam is owned by the county but is overseen by the Kansas State Department of Agriculture's Water Resources Division. That office has declared the dam unsafe because of erosion problems with the spillway. The estimated cost of the repair is $1.9 million.
