Regional pairings
set for girls golf
Lawrence High and Free State High have been assigned to the Class 6-5A girls golf regional on Oct. 11 at Lake Shawnee. The first tee time is 11:15 a.m.
Other teams at the regional are Emporia, Leavenworth, Manhattan, Olathe North, Olathe South, Shawnee Heights, Topeka, Topeka Seaman, Topeka Washburn Rural and Topeka West.
The state golf tournament is Oct. 18 at Mariah Hills Golf Club in Dodge City.
LHS to play host
to tennis regional
Lawrence High will play host to a seven-team Class 6A girls tennis regional on Oct. 11 at Lawrence Tennis Center.
Other teams at the regional are Free State, Leavenworth, Olathe East, Olathe North, Olathe South and Topeka.
The 6A state tournament is Oct. 15-16 at Kossover Tennis Facility in Topeka.
Baldwin has been assigned to the 4A regional on Oct. 11 at Topeka Hayden. The 4A state meet is Oct. 15-16 at Hutchinson Community College.
LHS golfers take
fourth at scramble
Shawnee -- Lawrence High's girls golf team placed fourth out of 10 teams Wednesday at the Shawnee Mission Northwest nine-hole scramble at Tomahawk Hills.
Lawrence's Julie Ellena, Jamie Rusk, Leslie Short and Melissa Sigler combined for a 38, two strokes behind winner Shawnee Mission South.
"It was team-building type tournament," LHS coach Mark Vancuren said. "We had a good time, there was good weather. All four of them played well together."
Next for LHS is the Sunflower League tournament on Monday at Meadowbrook.
Manhattan -- Free State High's JV volleyball team went 1-2 at the Manhattan Tournament on Wednesday. Free State defeated Emporia 15-11, 15-3, then fell to Junction City 9-15, 15-2, 10-15, and Manhattan 13-15, 15-8, 14-16. Middle hitter Caitlin Wisler had several kills. Haley Cabay was cited for strong play at setter. FSHS, 11-10, will travel to Emporia Saturday.
