Paced by Jason Brown's 14th-place finish, the Haskell Indian Nations University men's cross country team placed fourth out of 11 teams at last Saturday's Tabor College Invitational.
Brown covered the 8K course in 29:32, just more than two minutes off the winning time. HINU's other placers were: Robbie Goslin, 17th; Lambert Watchman, 19th; Myron Shield, 46th; and Ed Whiteman, 50th.
Hutchinson CC won the meet with 20 points and was followed by Friends University (74 points), Bethany College (84), Haskell (105) and McPherson (120).
The Fightin' Indians fielded just two women for the 5K race, both placing in the top 20. Elma Brown was 13th in 22:03 and her sister, Teresa Brown, was 19th in 22:40.
"We are just now getting into competitive shape and starting to run well," HINU cross country coach Joe Bointy said.
Haskell will travel to Ottawa next Saturday.
Men's golf
Inclement weather kept the Fightin' Indians from competing in the Baker Invitational this week. They'll travel to Salina on Tuesday for their final fall tournament.
Volleyball
Haskell will travel to Lee's Summit, Mo., to face Longview tonight. The match begins at 7 p.m.
The Fightin' Indians are coming off an off week.
"The girls practiced hard this past week," coach Judith Gipp said. "They are continuously getting better and talking more on the court."
