J-W Staff Reports
Fifteen seniors in the Lawrence school district have been designated "commended scholars" by the National Merit Scholarship program.
To be included in that group, students had to score in the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who took the 1998 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
The nine Lawrence High School students are: Rachel Eck, Robert Garven, Jennifer Hughes, Ryan Morgan, Lauren Poull, Justin Shmalberg, James Un and Kristin Wong.
The six Free State High School students are: Sarah Andyshak, Sandra Biszantz, Renee Fullerton, Alison Lungstrum, John Ott and Aaron Paul.
All the students will receive a letter of commendation and remain in the competition for National Merit awards to be offered next spring.
