State historical society
receives Civil War grant
The Kansas State Historical Society will receive a $224,000 grant for a special Civil War project from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The funds will allow the society to work in partnership with the Kansas Collection at Kansas University to present information and materials on Kansas' role in the Civil War, via the Internet.
The project will digitize photographs, handwritten documents and pictures of artifacts. The information will be organized on a Web site and will include information and analysis about each piece of historical material.
Teaching packets to be used at elementary, middle, high school and college levels will also be developed.
