Parts of a film, "Linda Lovelace for President," were to be shot in Lawrence but the crew was to get minimal aid, at best, from the city and the school district, to which it had appealed for help. There was immediate veto of a proposal for the Lawrence High band to appear in the film featuring the controversial porno film performer, and there were doubts about how receptive the Kansas University campus would be regarding the movie with the central figure a woman who had been the focal point of "Deep Throat."

The nation's fifth largest commercial bank, Morgan Guaranty Trust of New York, cut its prime lending rate by a quarter-point to 11.75 percent.

Local farmers plagued by a season of alternate cold and damp days and drenching rains followed by hot, searing winds now ran the risk of an early frost, weather experts said.

A fund drive to raise an estimated $35,000 was started for the Lawrence Arts Center.
