Lindbergh

A. Scott Berg

Berg's epic volume details the events of Charles Lindbergh's life and explores his character. Once he landed in Paris on May 21, 1927, Lindbergh became a romantic hero and a media celebrity. Berg discusses Lindbergh's lonely childhood, his aviation career and historic flight, his complicated marriage to Anne Morrow and the tragic kidnapping of their first son, the controversy over his links with Nazi Germany and his subsequent work as a test pilot during the war, his contributions to scientific research and conservation. Lindbergh emerges as a flawed but fascinating figure.

Anne Frank: The Biography

Melissa Muller

Although most readers know the story of Anne Frank from her famous diary, Muller fills in some important gaps, taking care not to sentimentalize the teen-ager who became a symbol of the Holocaust. Muller chronicles more fully Anne's relationship with her family and with the other residents of the Secret Annex, reveals the probable identity of their betrayer and describes the last remaining, unpublished diary pages that were suppressed by Otto Frank. Her well-researched volume includes a note by Miep Gies, who helped the Franks while they were in hiding.
