YIELD SIGN CONFUSION SOUNDOFF

September 25, 1999

In the new area where they built houses at Crestline and 27th streets, there's a yield sign instead of a stop sign. People seem to disregard that and enter 27th Street without even slowing down.

Also, the alley just west of the new Sears store on 27th Street is a problem. As you come out of the Sears parking lot there's a stop sign there entering the alley, but then when you come from the alley on to 27th street there is no stop sign or even a yield right of way sign and people just seem to ignore it too. What can be done about these situations?

Although the Sears issue may be on private property, the Traffic Safety Commission will consider a request to study the intersection if an interested party writes with details, Lawrence City Manager Mike Wildgen said. Mail should be sent to city hall.
