In her second season as a starter at Lawrence High after starting as a freshman at Great Bend, Bechard has emerged as one of the steadiest setters in the Sunflower League.
Bechard, who helped the Lions to a second-place finish at the Wichita Northwest tournament on Saturday, leads the league in setting completion percentage (99.2 percent) and is among league leaders in serving completion percentage (96 percent) and assists per game (3.23). Her kill percentage is at 41 percent and she has a .227 hitting efficiency.
"Ashley is consistent, competitive and a great leader," LHS coach Jo Huntsinger said. "She's an incredibly competitive athlete. She is the envy of opposing coaches. She adds so much to our team."
Bechard is a co-captain, the first junior to receive captain status in the Lions' rich volleyball history.
