Free State's senior forward helped the Firebirds earn their first win of the season, scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 3-1 win over Shawnee Mission West on Tuesday.
"Todd's kind of our quarterback on the field, to make a football analogy," FSHS coach Jason Pendleton said. "He does a nice job of distributing the ball and has a really good understanding of the game. He creates a lot of opportunities for our forwards to be in the right spot to have a shot on goal.
On Thursday night, Wilkins scored what was the go-ahead goal at the time in a 3-2 overtime loss to Lawrence High. He also had several shots on goal while leading the Firebirds' attack.
"Although he's not a captain he's definitely a team leader," Pendleton said. "He possesses a good attitude, good sense of humor, very coachable. He's a good kid."
