Truck driver injured

in Friday accident

A Moundridge man was in stable condition Friday night after he fell asleep while driving a truckload of dry cement, overturning the truck near the West Lawrence Interchange on the Kansas Turnpike.

Kenneth Coleman, 46, Moundridge, was driving the 1995 Peterbilt truck west on the turnpike at 4:30 a.m. Friday when he fell asleep at the interchange, according to Kansas Turnpike Authority reports. The truck left the road, went into a ditch and overturned, coming to rest on its left side.

Coleman, who climbed from the wreckage, was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with a broken jaw, cuts and bruises.

The tanks holding the cement powder apparently didn't rupture, and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical hazardous materials crews weren't called in for a cleanup, a spokesman said.

Coleman was hauling the cement for J and K Trucking, Moundridge.
