Baldwin High junior Megan Noonan seems to have a fingernail polish for every season.
Noonan, who sported pumpkin orange polish late last season, donned a new color on Saturday at the Jayhawk Invitational at Rim Rock, where she placed fourth in the big-class 5-kilometer race in 19:38.76.
"Orange is more of a regional and state color," Noonan said. "I went with mountain dew (Saturday). I guess it worked."

SFT coach reaches milestone: Susan Averill, now in her 20th season coaching Santa Fe Trail volleyball, posted her 600th career victory on Tuesday at the Lansing triangular. The Chargers, off to an 8-0 start, beat Lansing, 15-4, 15-6, for the milestone victory and then upended Leavenworth Immaculata, 15-7, 15-5. Averill's career record is 601-72.

Cross country teams ranked: Defending Class 4A state champion Baldwin is the No. 1 boys team in the latest coaches' cross country poll. The Wellsville boys are ranked seventh in Class 3A. In the girls' 4A poll, Ottawa is ranked second and Baldwin seventh.

Wellsville hits road: Wellsville takes its cross country, or at least its cross state, seriously. The Eagles' cross country teams will leave today for Stanton County in southwestern Kansas for a Saturday meet. By the time Wellsville returns home, it will have racked up 800 miles.
