Winston and Ruth Harwood
Winston and Ruth Harwood, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.
The couple were married on Sept. 25, 1949, at Danforth Chapel on the Kansas University campus. Mrs. Harwood attended KU and majored in voice. Mr. Harwood attended KU until he entered the armed services. After serving in World War II, he entered the grocery and wholesale meat business. He owned and operated Harwood's Meats for 45 years until he retired in 1992.
The couple have four children: Harriet, Dallas; Bob and Susie Harwood, Lawrence, Stuart Harwood, Lawrence; and Doug and Laura Lee Harwood, Prairie Village. The couple also have four grandchildren.
The couple request no gifts.
Eugene and Betty Jo Haley
Eugene and Betty Jo Haley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and close friends at a dinner party at Lawrence Country Club on Sept. 16.
The couple were married Sept. 5, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo.
They have two children: Jo Lynn Haley French, Chicago, and Michael Haley, Lawrence. They also have four grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Haley have lived in Lawrence their entire married life.
