On Sept. 25, 1899, the headline read, "Too High," in the Lawrence World and the accompanying article noted, "There was much complaint about the price of admission at the football game Saturday and a number remained away out of protest at making the price of admission 50 cents. The people believe that 25 cents is all a football game is worth and the price should be left at that figure. Every attempt to raise it heretofore has been a failure and it should not be tried this year."
