Unity Church

Unity Church of Lawrence, 416 Lincoln, has services at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Sherry Schultz's sermon will be "A Principled Life." Swami Ramaswarupananda will be guest speaker. Swami serves at the Divine Life Society in Rishikesh, India, and his visit was arranged through Pannir Kanagaratnam. The Children's Sunday Experience and the Uniteens/Y.O.U. meet at 11 a.m. A used book sale will be operated by youths of the church Sunday, and proceeds will benefit the Kosovo relief fund.

Cheryl Miller will conduct a session on "Holistic Health" at 7 p.m. Monday. The Course In Miracles class will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the church sanctuary.

The "Noon Prayer" group meets Wednesdays.

At 7 p.m. Wednesdays in September, Schultz will lead church members in an examination of the meaning of mysticism and mystical experiences found in the Scriptures.

A Vipassana meditation sitting group, led by Bob Mikesic, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Community Center

The Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Dr., has services at 7:45 p.m. Fridays. Saturday services will be at 10 a.m. starting Oct. 9.

Sukkot will be celebrated this year with a Sukkah Hop and picnic at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the LJCC. Participants will then continue on to community members' Sukkot, where there will be activities and dessert.

Rabbi Judith Beiner and musician Jerry Raven will join the community for Simchat Torah at 7 p.m. Oct. 2.

St. Theresa Catholic

Church of Perry

St. Theresa Catholic Church of Perry, Third and Elm, Perry, will conduct its annual bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 3. At this year's bazaar there will be a turkey and ham dinner, silent auction, baked goods, raffle, cake walk, bingo and games for children and. Baldwin First United Methodist Church, 704 Eighth, Baldwin, will hold its annual Holiday Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship Hall in the church. First Southern Baptist

"What is Your Real Priority?" will be the message Sunday at First Southern Baptist Church of Lawrence, 4300 W. Sixth. The Rev. Tom Stallworth will use Haggai 1:1-11, as the text for this sermon about setting the right priority for God's work. Bible study meets at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, and worship is at 10:30 a.m. The church will host a musical variety evening during the celebration worship that begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Christian Science

The Bible-lesson sermon at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Christian Science Church, 1701 Mass., is "Reality." Sunday school, for young people up to the age of 20, meets at the same time.

The Wednesday meeting, with testimonies of healing, is at 5:30 p.m. The church Reading Room is open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. This week's radio edition of the Christian Science Sentinel, "God is more powerful than any addiction," will be broadcast at 7:30 a.m. Sunday on KLWN 1320 AM.

of Christ (RLDS)

The Lawrence Community of Christ congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints provides CORE (Care, Outreach, Respond, and Expand) small group ministry for all ages. Weekly meetings are at various times and locations throughout the area.

Meeting (Quaker)

Trinity Lutheran

The Rev. Charles Gilmore will be presiding minister at the 9:30 a.m. Elder Fest Communion service Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. The Rev. Harold Hamilton, former pastor of Trinity Lutheran, will be guest preacher at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday, the 14th Sunday after Pentecost. The title of his sermon is "Rethinking Our Answer." Following the service, senior church members are invited for refreshments in Fellowship Hall.

The Sunday morning Bible class with Evelyn Olson is studying the use of the tabernacle as described in Exodus, Chapter 20, and Leviticus, Chapter 26. The Adult Forum will meet at 9:45 a.m. Sunday to discuss "The Priesthood of All Believers."

The Tuesday morning class, open to all denominations, is studying the missionary journeys in Acts 17-18 and is. The class, "Religion 101: Introduction to the Christian Faith," will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

First United Methodist

The Rev. Heather Hensarling's sermon Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., is "Finding My Way Home From Here, A Message for the Church in the College Community," based on Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7. Meli Melomane, a six member vocal ensemble from Haiti, will provide special music at the 9:45 a.m. worship service and will sing a mini concert at 10:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. UMYF potluck parent's night is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Latter-day Saints

Heights Christian

The Rev. Graham Catto will speak at 6:30 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting on Wednesday will be specifically directed to youths. Catto is a senior pastor from Hatfield Christian Fellowship in Pretoria, South Africa. He ministers in the power of the Holy Spirit and has spoken throughout the United States and Europe.

The junior and senior high youth group, "The Connection," meets from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

Second Christian

The Rev. Marshall will preach at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Second Christian Church, 1245 Conn. Visiting pastor, the Rev. Johnson from Texas, will preach at the 3:30 p.m. service Sunday at the church.

Redeemer Lutheran

Centenary

United Methodist

The Rev. Judy Long O'Neal continues the sermon series, "The Least of These," with the message "Born with a Bucket," based on John 4:8-14, at the 10:50 a.m. service Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth. Sunday morning activities also include a congregational hymn sing at 9:15 a.m. in the sanctuary. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.

Centenary is preparing for its annual Festival of Nativities, which features more than 150 nativity sets from around the world. This year the display will be held the first three weekends in December. The Festival coordinating committee will meet Tuesday in the Upper Room.

First Christian

The Rev. Mike Birney will preach "What Jesus Really Taught About Greed" in both the 8:15 a.m. traditional and 11 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky. This sermon will focus on accepting Jesus as our teacher and seeking to obey his teachings.

Pioneer Clubs, a program for children age 4 through sixth grade from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., will begin Wednesday.

Men's First Wednesdays, a program for all interested men, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6. The Rev. Ron Goodman will lead a discussion on "What it Means to Be a Real Man." Reservations are needed for dinner.

Divorce Care, a personal growth program for people who have experienced divorce, will meet Oct. 7 and continue for 15 weeks.

A Women's Retreat is scheduled for the evening of Oct. 8 and all day Oct. 9.

Congregational

The sermon is "Claiming our own Spiritual Authority," based on Matthew 21:23-32 and Philippians 2:1-13. West Side Presbyterian

The Rev. Dick Pierson will deliver the sermon, "By What Authority?" at 11 a.m. Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold. Scriptures are Exodus 17:1-7 and Matthew 21:23-32.

Campus Center

Episcopal/Lutheran Campus Center, 1116 La., will hold a tailgate party for students and parents at 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Canterbury House, 1116 La.

Episcopal and Lutheran peer ministers, along with those who are members of Christian Base Communities, will be installed at the 5 p.m. worship service Sunday in St. Anselm's Chapel, 1116 La. Dinner follows the service. Bible study begins at 6:30 p.m.

Eucharist will be at noon Tuesday at Danforth Chapel, Kansas University. Lunch will follow.

First Presbyterian

The Rev. Art Donnelly will give the sermon "What Do You Think?" based on Matthew 21:23-32, during the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Pkwy. Church school begins at 9:30 a.m.

The congregation is encouraged to watch "Touched by an Angel" at 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS. This show will feature a story about America's response to human slavery and genocide in southern Sudan, a country in Africa where more than two million people have died in a civil war, and thousands of women and children remain enslaved. First Presbyterian Church member Bobbie Francis McDonald recently traveled to southern Sudan on a mission trip, witnessing the horrors of this 15 year war.

Baha'i Faith

The Saturday Deepening for Baha'is meets at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays. The Slikers are facilitators.

The Teaching Institute Committee of Baha'i will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Chapter 3 of "Raising the Cause" will be discussed.

Evangelical Free

The Rev. Beau Abernathy's message at the 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Christ Community Evangelical Free Church, 1449 Kasold, will be on "Satan; Is He? Who is He?"
