The Lawrence post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will have an open house Saturday to mark the 100th anniversary of the national VFW.
"We'll have information on what we're about and things we do in the community," said Rose Smith, wife of Gus Smith, post commander of the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the VFW.
The open house will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the post, 138 Ala.
A short ceremony outlining the beginnings of the Lawrence post, established in April 1931, will be at 2 p.m., Gus Smith said.
The post currently has about 555 members and 255 members in its auxiliary.
Gus Smith said he wasn't sure what the turnout would be for Saturday's open house.
"We're hoping it's a bunch," he said.
Refreshments will be available during the open house.
The local post also will have a display of patches, pictures and other memorabilia.
The national VFW was founded Sept. 29, 1899.
