Health department

to move this weekend

It may be a month later than originally planned, but the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department is moving to its new quarters this weekend.

"We are looking forward to the move," said Barbara Schnitker, director of nurses at the health department. "The new clinic space is much larger and allows us to integrate our (Women, Infants and Children) nutrition services with our other clinic services."

Health department staff will have additional office and conference room space at the new building, 200 Maine, which also houses the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center and the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. Those two agencies moved at the end of August, but the health department move was postponed until the construction on the offices was finished.

The health department will move from 336 Mo. to the new offices on Saturday, and will be closed to the public on Monday. The office will re-open at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
