West falls, 7-0
One touchdown was enough for Shawnee Heights to beat West, 7-0, in city junior high football on Monday at West. Joe Sicilian and Matt Berner were cited for their defensive play for West. The Warhawks (2-2) will travel to Eudora next Thursday.
Brooks says Kansas
shows interest
One of the quickest point guards on the West coast says Kansas has expressed interest in the basketball recruiting process.
Brandon Brooks, a 5-11 senior from Jefferson High in Portland, Ore., said a KU assistant coach watched him play last week and head coach Roy Williams paid a visit to his head coach, Marshall Haskins.
Brooks, who is a standout football player, averaged 19 points, 11 assists and six rebounds last year. He says UNLV and St. Louis have asked him to visit their campuses. He's expected to sign late because of football season taking up much of his time.
Lion sophomores win
Overland Park -- Lawrence High's sophomore football team beat SM South, 18-12, on Wednesday at the Raiders' field. Bill Petersen scored on a 2-yard run; Ian Higgins on a 10-yard run and Brian Allen a 70-yard pass from Paul Houle. Dallas Worley had an interception. The Lions, 3-1, travel to Olathe North next Wednesday.
Baker soccer falls
Baldwin -- Baker fell to Columbia, 3-2, in men's college soccer here Wednesday. Erik Jones and Peter Lenz scored for Baker. Joel Colletti had an assist on Jones' goal. Baker (3-3) will play Illinois-Springfield on Saturday in Springfield, Ill.
