Prairie Village -- Lawrence High's girls tennis team won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles but nowhere else in losing a dual at Shawnee Mission East, 7-2, on Tuesday.
LHS senior Brooke Seymour defeated Molly Moran, 8-3, and the doubles duo of Lisa Dixon and Katherine Wells defeated the Lancers' pair, 8-5.
"Brooke surprised me," LHS coach Dick Wedel said. "She arrived at the meet distracted. She had forgotten her ankle brace and she just learned that she was nominated for the homecoming court -- pretty heady stuff.
"But she got down to business as soon as she hit the first tennis ball and beat Molly, a pretty good player."
Lawrence High's junior varsity squad was defeated by SM East, 9-0.
