Kansas won't be opening Big 12 Conference volleyball play against a slouch. No. 8-ranked Texas will be here tonight to tangle with the Jayhawks.

Game time is 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Center.

Kansas is fresh off an impressive championship in the Tennessee Invitational last weekend. Led by senior outside hitter Mary Beth Albrecht, the Jayhawks defeated the host Vols in five games to earn the title.

Albrecht was named the tourney MVP. Junior outside hitter Amy Myatt was named to the all-tourney team.

Texas, meanwhile, is coming off two losses at Penn State after the Longhorns won their first six matches of the season.

Kansas is 9-2 with its only losses to TCU and Auburn, both unranked.

Kansas has never defeated Texas in volleyball. Last year, the Longhorns swept Kansas in three games twice.

Texas is one of five Big 12 teams ranked in the current AVCA-USA Today poll. Nebraska is No. 4, Texas A&M; No. 16, Colorado No. 22 and Kansas State No. 24.
