Springfield, Mo. - The Kansas University women's soccer team defeated Southwest Missouri State 3-1 Tuesday.

The Bears (7-3) entered the game ranked sixth in the nation in scoring but were limited to five shots and one goal by the Jayhawks (3-4).

KU midfielder Melissa Downing scored the game's first goal in the first half. The Bears tied the game in the second half, but midfielder Meghann Haven scored 10 minutes later with an assist from Hilla Rantala.

Kansas made it 3-1 when Kylie Watts scored with an assist from defender Lindsey Loeffler.

Goalie Betsy Pollard made three saves for the Jayhawks.

Kansas plays host to the KU Credit Union Jayhawk Invitational this weekend at SuperTarget Field. KU plays Drury College at 4:30 p.m. Friday and Creighton at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
