FIELDHOUSE USE

To the editor:

I have been reading about the new high school graduations relocation. Being a parent of three high school children, I question the Kansas University officials that have decided it is unsafe and uncomfortable for our children to use Allen Fieldhouse for the graduation ceremonies. My husband and I have had KU season basketball tickets for over 10 years and have never felt unsafe; uncomfortable, yes, but that's par for stadium seating.

Five tickets for our family is totally unacceptable. If we, as parents, let this happen, we are telling our children that their accomplishment is not important. Our own children have two sets of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. and it would be a shame if those that want to will not be allowed to attend.

We have supported all of our children's activities through high school, not only by attending open houses, ball games, etc., but also by being members of the Booster Club and donating to fund-raisers. This town has always been able to work together with Haskell and KU when we need something from each other. Let's find a way to solve this so that all of us can see the children graduate from high school this year and the years to come.

By the way, who are "the KU officials," and what is the real reason we are not allowed to use Allen Fieldhouse?

Teresa Treanor,

Lawrence.
