Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 20-year-old male Kansas University student reported 200 compact discs were stolen from his car between 11:45 p.m. and 6:34 a.m. Sunday from the 1000 block of Emery. Loss was $3,000.

Police reports

  • A 20-year-old Lawrence woman reported an unknown man touched her breasts and buttocks after asking for a light for her cigarette at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East Eighth. The woman, who reported the incident at 4 p.m. Monday, said the man was a six-foot tall, white male about 40 years old, weighing about 200 pounds with brown hair.
  • Police seized less than an ounce of marijuana Saturday while responding to a call of animal abuse. Someone called police at 10:45 p.m. Saturday to report the abuse at an apartment at 660 Gateway. Sgt. George Wheeler said police saw a man sitting in the apartment, next to a large marijuana bong, breaking chunks of marijuana on a tray. The officers took two bags containing a total of 22.2 grams (an ounce is 28 grams) of marijuana, and another bag containing the remains of marijuana cigarettes. Wheeler said the man wasn't arrested, pending results of laboratory tests by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The dog appeared to be unharmed and was not seized.
  • A 56-year-old Lawrence woman reported she heard several gunshots about 3:35 a.m. Sunday outside her apartment complex at 501 Colo. Sgt. George Wheeler said she thought she heard something hit her wall, but it wasn't until 8:45 a.m. Monday that she saw a bullet hole in her bedroom wall and called police. Wheeler said police found three shell casings near the apartment building, but there were no other reports. No one was injured in the shooting. The woman, reached at work Tuesday, declined to comment about the incident. Wheeler said police are interviewing residents at the apartment complex.
  • Police stopped a Ford Explorer with six Free State High School students, arresting all of them on drug charges after finding marijuana in the vehicle, according to a report released by police Tuesday. A police officer stopped the Explorer after the 17-year-old male driver failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign at 11:17 a.m. Sept. 15 near the school, 4700 Overland Dr. Marijuana was in plain view on the floor, Sgt. George Wheeler said, and more marijuana was found in the glove compartment during a search. Police arrested three 17-year-old males, a 17-year-old female, a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male.
