A Lawrence woman will represent Miss Kansas USA at the Miss USA competition in Branson, Mo., in early February.
Tiffany Tenille Meyer, 23, won the Miss Kansas USA crown during a pageant in Wichita during the weekend.
"I was completely excited. I was shocked," she said. "There were about a million emotions going through my head at the time."
Meyer is the daughter of Lawrence Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer Gene Meyer.
"I was extremely proud," Gene Meyer said. "She worked very hard and I think was very deserving of it and I think she will be a very good representative of Kansas."
The Miss USA pageant will be televised on CBS.
Tiffany Meyer has a nursing degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and currently works at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., treating children with broken bones and organ transplants.
Meyer was first runner-up last year in the Miss Kansas USA pageant, and was Miss Missouri Teen USA in 1994.
She said she became interested in the competitions after people suggested she try it.
"I just entered in 1994 for fun, and I won it," she said.
Meyer also said she enjoyed working with children at Children's Mercy, and would work throughout the next few months to deliver a message of safety and prevention.
For example, she said, "Having worked there, I've seen how not wearing your seatbelt one night can really change your life."
"I hope to focus on childhood safety and (accident) prevention " and education."
