Lawrence High won its 40th straight football game with a 40-6 romp past Manhattan. Coach Al Woolard's Lions were in quest of a fourth straight Kansas high school title.
Emil Heck, president of the Kaw Valley Water Management District and director of the Douglas County Kaw Drainage District, flew to Washington to represent the area before the director of the federal budget. He was asking $75,000 for planning for local flood protection work and about $680,000 for additional progress on the Perry Reservoir 16 miles northwest of Lawrence.
