Lawrence High's sophomore football team scored 20 unanswered points in the second half Thursday, and the Lions defeated Shawnee Mission West 26-6.
Neither team produced much offense in the first half. Lawrence's Joe Bell scored the game's first touchdown on a 60-yard punt return. West's only sustained drive of the game resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run that tied the game 6-6 at halftime.
In the second half, Lawrence running back Bill Peterson scored on a 15-yard run and also scored on a two-point conversion run. Quarterback Paul Houle scored on a 32-yard run, and running back Ian Higgins added a 38-yard touchdown run.
Lawrence (2-1) will play again next Wednesday at Shawnee Misison South.
