Free State High's boys soccer team was clipped by Shawnee Mission South, 3-1, on Thursday at the FSHS field.
The Raiders led 1-0 at the half and gained a 2-0 edge in the 50th minute. The Firebirds (0-8) cut the deficit to 2-1 on senior Colin Baumchen's goal in the 62nd minute.
"We played much better today than we did Tuesday," FSHS coach Jason Pendleton said. "Next week's a huge week for us, maybe even the most important week in Free State soccer history. We have three important games that can turn our season around.
"I expect lots of emotion next week and look forward to coming out and trying to get some W's."
Free State plays host to SM West on Tuesday, faces Lawrence High on Thursday and is at Junction City on Saturday.
