JoAn and Everett H. Hoover

JoAn and Everett H. Hoover, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March with a two-week family trip to Disney World and Epcot Center in Orlando, Fla.

The couple were married Sept. 17, 1949 in Buffalo, Mo.

They both attended Buffalo (Mo.) High School. Mr. Hoover graduated in 1947 and Mrs. Hoover graduated in 1949.

Mr. Hoover retired from Farmland Industries in May 1991 after 38 years of employment. Mrs. Hoover worked for the Credit Bureau of Lawrence from August 1967 to October 1980. She then worked for Executive Answering from 1980 to 1987.

The couple have three sons; David Lynn, Randy and Bruce, all of Lawrence. They also have three grandsons.

Dean and Mardell Englebrecht

Dean and Mardell Englebrecht, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at First Christian Church, 10th and Kentucky streets.

Dean and Mardell were married Sept. 25, 1949, in Yates Center. Following their marriage, the Englebrechts farmed in Woodson County where Mr. Englebrecht also did carpentry work and Mrs. Englebrecht taught at a one-room schoolhouse. The couple have lived in Lawrence since 1958.

Mr. Englebrecht was employed by contractor O.F. Stinson, Lawrence, and later was a self-employed carpenter/contractor. Mrs. Englebrecht was employed by Dillon Food Stores and later was a bookkeeper for the J.C. Penney Co.

The couple have two daughters: Dee Chaffin, Olathe, and Jane Phelps, Lawrence. They also have four grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

Donald G. and Roberta Ross McDow

Don and Robert McDow, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 9 with a trip to Spain and Portugal. They were married at the Westport Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, Mo.

The couple moved to Lawrence in 1959 to manage the Ben Franklin Store, a family-owned business in downtown Lawrence. After selling the store, Mr. McDow went on to a career in insurance and retired from Don McDow Insurance Agency. Mrs. McDow retired from a career in real estate with Bodin-McDow Real Estate Agency. The couple are avid golfers in their retirement.

They have three children: Rick McDow, Lawrence, Suzanne Nutt, Lawrence, and Debbie Miller, Parkville, Mo. They also have five grandchildren.

Tom and Ozella Burns

Tom and Ozella Burns, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26, at their home.

Tom Burns and Ozella Pearson were married Sept. 28, 1939, in Ottawa.

Mr. Burns retired from the Lawrence Paper Co. after 26 years and from the power plant after five years.

Mrs. Burns retired from the Lawrence School system where she was a cook for 27 years.

Hosts for the reception will be their children: Tom and Cathy Burns, McLouth, Susie and Roger Taul, Baldwin, Patty and Ken Breithaupt, Lawrence, and Jenny Hadley, Baldwin. The couple also have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.
