Three Lawrence groups
receive grants
YouthFriends, West Junior High and the Lawrence Arts Center have received grants from Southwestern Bell through the 1999 Kansas Community Enrichment Program.
YouthFriends received a $10,000 grant. The money will be used to begin a project that will initiate a telementoring program with the 12 Kansas school districts.
West Junior High will use the $20,000 it received for the "Community Connections" project. The project will upgrade computer equipment, making it possible to digitize primary resource materials from Watkins Community Museum. Students will also help seniors at the Lawrence Senior Center with basic computer skills.
Lawrence Arts Center received $15,000 to establish an electronic imaging studio for arts and culture groups and professionals to develop Web sites. The studio will also be used to teach classes in digital photography, computer graphic arts and online publishing.
