The oddsmakers say Colorado will beat Kansas by 17 points in the Big 12 football opener for both teams on Saturday in Boulder, Colo.
"Sometimes they are wrong," KU sophomore cornerback Andrew Davison said. "They thought K-State was going to beat Purdue last year (in the Alamo Bowl). They didn't. Nothing is guaranteed."
The No. 17-ranked Buffs were heavily favored to beat Kansas last Oct. 24 at Memorial Stadium. The Jayhawks won that game, 33-17.
Last year, Colorado quarterback Mike Moschetti (16-of-22 passing for 200 yards and one rushing touchdown) left the game with a second-degree concussion in the third quarter and the Buffaloes down, 20-14.
Backup QB Adam Bledsoe was not effective the rest of the way, hitting three of nine passes for 21 yards as KU won going away.
"He got hurt. I think that was the turning point," Davison said. "That's their offense right there ... Moschetti. Without him they just break down. We have to stop the quarterback draws and stuff. He tries to roll out of the pocket. If we stop that we'll have no problem."
Moschetti, a 6-foot-0, 195-pound senior, passed for a school-record 465 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in last Saturday's 63-35 rout of San Jose State.
Does that onslaught worry Davison?
"No. We have a lot better secondary than San Jose State," Davison said. "I don't see any team scoring 60 on us this year passing the ball."
So if he was the oddsmaker?
"I say 10 points, maybe 10 or 7," Davison said, referring to a KU victory. "I don't see Colorado as a big upset. I think we can beat them. This is one game we are supposed to win in my picture.
"If we can win the next three games and go into K-State 4-1 we'd be in a good position as far as a bowl game."
KU will play successive home games against San Diego State and SMU following the CU game.
