On Sept. 16, 1899, the Lawrence World told of a successful carnival on Massachusetts Street staged by a group called the Wig Wags. The World reported: "The parade was something great...strange as it may seem it was practically on time. This is a big point. Parades have such a way of lagging until everybody gets out of humor before they get under way. The one last night moved along on time and there was not a hitch anywhere."
