Free State High's C team won its first soccer game of the season Wednesday at Free State, ending a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over Shawnee Mission South.
Goal keeper Allen Martinez made seven saves and was not scored on. The Firebirds rolled to a 4-0 lead before South scored two goals in the game's final eight minutes against Free State's reserves.
Adam Pearce gave Free State a 1-0 lead when he scored off Adrian Ludwig's assist 25 minutes into the first half. Ludwig added an unassisted goal in the second half, and Chris Scott scored a pair of goals. Drew Smith had one assist.
Also cited for strong play were midfielders Robert Jameson and Austin Oberzan.
Free State plays another home game at 4:15 p.m. Friday against Olathe East.
