DeShawn Stevenson, a 6-foot-5 senior from Washington Union High in Fresno, Calif., will make an official basketball recruiting visit to Kansas University for Late Night With Roy Williams on Oct. 15.
Stevenson will make his official campus visit the same weekend as 6-8 Travon Bryant from Long Beach, Calif.
Bryant and Stevenson are friends who have played on the same AAU teams in the past.
"DeShawn's in-home visit with Kansas went very well. He's very impressed with (coach) Roy Williams and Kansas," said Larry Trigueiro, Union's head coach. "Kansas is one of the first schools to start recruiting him.
"At the same time, I don't think there's a real leader. He has eight schools and I'd imagine unless somebody turns him off during an in-home visit, he'll consider all eight the entire year."
Stevenson will not sign in November, electing to ink in the spring.
Stevenson has in-home visits scheduled with Fresno State (today), UCLA (Wednesday), Georgia (Thursday), San Diego State and UConn (Sunday), Missouri (Sept. 20) and Kentucky (26th).
Stevenson -- he averaged 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals for last year's California Div. III state champs -- has decided to attend college and not turn pro early, his coach said. He is two points shy of reaching a qualifying score on the ACT with a solid grade point average of 2.856.
Stevenson was recruited by 90 schools, the total dropping to 15 during the summer and now eight. Why all the interest? He was first-team all state in California a year ago and California's junior player of the year. He's regarded as the top prospect in the country by some recruiting analysts.
