IN 1899
On Sept. 14, 1899, the Lawrence World had the following headline: "Coal For Everybody" and the accompanying article noted "Jasper Carter is going over to Leavenworth tomorrow for the purpose of securing more coal miners and will shortly be able to supply all the Blue Mound coal needed in this city. Miners have been hard to get and the supply is so far short."
