National Computer Systems Inc. is expected to add another 100 full-time jobs at its data-processing center in the East Hills Business Park.

National Computer Systems Inc. has landed a contract worth $60 million to handle pension and retirement forms for the U.S. Department of Labor.

The seven-year deal announced Monday is expected to result in 100 new full-time jobs at the NCS data-processing center in East Hills Business Park, where the Labor Department's EFAST program is expected to process about 1.2 million retirement and pension-fund filings each year.

The Lawrence center already has 260 full-time employees, and up to 800 part-timers depending on the time of year. As the company's data-processing systems continue to grow, the 90,000-square-foot East Hills center is expected to be expanded by another 50,000 square feet.

Russ Gullotti, NCS' chairman, president and chief executive officer, said the company would provide a quality, timely and reliable data-management system to help the Labor Department and others monitor and protect benefits plans for 200 million participants and beneficiaries.

"We are extremely pleased " to help secure the health and retirement benefits of millions of Americans," Gullotti said in a prepared statement.

Vicki Amundson, vice president of NCS Lawrence, has been unavailable for comment for several days. In a recent interview, however, she said that NCS' expansion plans hinged, in part, on the Labor Department contract.

In Lawrence, employees will manage a system to process forms filed by employers each year with the federal government regarding 401(k) and pension plans, she said.

"We're talking about 100 new positions in Lawrence," Amundson said in the interview.

The Lawrence center opened in 1997, and today handles privacy-sensitive information for government agencies and runs a call center for the U.S. Department of Education. The company also has a contract to track pacemakers for a medical-supplies company, and local NCS employees grade assessment tests and essays for education departments in several states.

NCS has been in Lawrence since 1994.

It has 4,200 employees at 30 major locations across North America, Europe and Australia, and expects revenues this year of more than $600 million.
