Poster and T-shirt displays are planned this week as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week at Kansas University.
Kansas University is holding a series of events this week to raise awareness about sexual assault and rape.
"We wanted to have it early in the year in order to have the information out," said Kathy Rose-Mockry, program director of the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center, a sponsor of this week's activities.
Events will include a "Clothesline Project," or a display of T-shirts that have been created by victims of sexual assault and rape.
There also will be discussions, a poster display and a "hands across campus" symbolic gathering.
"We did the clothesline project last year and got a very positive response," Rose-Mockry said. "We also got a very good response from the poster project."
Last year, one rape and two cases of sexual battery were reported on campus, said KU police spokesman Sgt. Troy Mailen.
There were four reports of sexual battery and three reports of rape in 1996, and no reports of sexual battery and seven reports of rape in 1997, he said.
However, Rose-Mockry said, studies show that only about one in 10 rapes are reported to authorities.
