LINCOLN, NEB. Kansas University's men's golf team set two school records Tuesday en route to a dominating 35-stroke victory at the season-opening Nebraska Invitational.
The Jayhawks, who finished with 853 strokes in the 11-team, 54-hole tournament, outdistanced runnerup Missouri (888).
The 35-stroke margin of victory is the largest in school history. KU's victory was fueled by a school record score of 12-under-par 272 in the final round.
Senior Ryan Vermeer won the tournament with 68-67-67--202. KU's Andy Stewart was second at 73-71-67--211. KU's Conrad Roberts placed sixth at 219. Brad Davis, continuing his comeback from injuries sustained in a fall off his apartment balcony last May, tied for 13th at 78-74-69--221.
Jake Istnick jumped from 50th place to 28th with a total of 228. He tied Chris Marshall, also at 228. Results in scoreboard.
