Ex-Jayhawk Walters

to stay with Miami

Miami --Rex Walters, who had contract talks with Seattle, Detroit, Chicago and Dallas, has decided to remain a member of the Miami Heat.

Walters, a 29-year-old former Kansas University guard, re-signed with the Heat over the weekend, the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported. His two-year deal is worth $2.4 million.

Last season, the 6-foot-4 Walters played in 33 games and started 13. He averaged 3.1 points and 1.8 rebounds while logging 15.3 minutes per game.

"His heart was in Miami," Walters' agent, Mark Bartelstein, told the paper. "He probably could have made more money with another team, but he thinks this is a great opportunity."

Walters was a first-round pick of the New Jersey Nets in 1993. He's also played with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The team has yet to announce the signing as Walters first must pass a physical.
