IVIN E. 'GENE' NEWLAND
Baldwin -- Services for Ivin E. "Gene" Newland, 72, Baldwin, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin.
Mr. Newland died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, of cancer at his home.
He was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Baldwin, the son of George A. and Dorothy Belle (Pearson) Newland.
Mr. Newland was a member of the Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1948 to 1952, and for U.S.I. and Koch Industries at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, DeSoto, from 1952 until retiring in 1992.
He married Louise Frazee in 1949. They later divorced. He married Dotty Scarbrough-Trowbridge on Sept. 13, 1955. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Merle Wayne Newland, Wellsville, and Lary Lee Trowbridge, Baldwin; two daughters, Jana Jean Kelly and Nancy Jolene Culley, both of Baldwin; a brother, Neil "Jay", Mound City; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The family suggests memorials to the Olathe Hospice or the Kansas University Medical Center Cancer Research Fund, and they may be sent in care of the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin 66006.
