Overland Park -- Lawrence High's volleyball team opened its season with two wins Thursday night at the Blue Valley North quadrangular.
Then the Lions dropped their third match, 16-14, 15-12, to the host school.
"What I expected was for us to play as well as we possibly could," LHS coach Jo Huntsinger said. "In the first two matches, we did pretty well. I'm really pleased with those two matches. But against Blue Valley North " Blue Valley North was more physical than the other two teams."
Lawrence defeated Olathe East 15-7, 15-11, and knocked off Olathe South 15-7, 15-5 before bowing to Blue Valley North.
"At times we played well, then at times we were inconsistent and couldn't keep the ball on the court," Huntsinger said. "Our serving and passing was good all day. We definitely learned a whole lot by losing that match. I do like a good loss."
Next for LHS is a quad with Shawnee Mission East and Leavenworth at SM West on Thursday.
