Washburn Rural stopped Free State, 1-0, in boys soccer on Thursday at the FSHS field.
The loss came on the heels of Wednesday's 4-2 loss to defending state champion SM Northwest.
"It was a tough game. We got back at 10:30 last night from Shawnee Mission Northwest and were a little down today," Free State coach Jason Pendleton said. "In the first half, we were a little flat. It's my responsibility to get them fired up. I take responsibility for that."
The Firebirds had six shots on goal to Rural's 15. Mike Hazel was cited for strong play on defense.
Free State will meet Olathe South at 4:15 p.m. next Tuesday at FSHS.
