Day of outreach
for prisoners scheduled
A day of outreach and art will be held today at South Park for two high-profile American prisoners.
Today is a national day of protest for Mumia Abu Jamal, on death row in Pennsylvania for the 1981 slaying of a Philadelphia police officer, and Sunday is the birthday of Leonard Peltier, who is a federal prisoner being held for the 1975 murder of two FBI agents.
Their imprisonments are the subject of national and international protest.
Activities Saturday in Lawrence will include discussing future organizing, handing out literature to the public and creating art about the prisoners' plights.
